TG4 - Energy Efficiency
The Thematic Group on Energy Efficiency will contribute to the deployment of new ITS technologies with potential to reduce the CO2 output of road transport by drawing up a road map on the implementation of these technologies. This road-map will be placed within the framework of an integrated approach of cars, infrastructure and drivers.
ACEA leds this Thematic Group. Partners involved are Amanova, CEDR, FIA European Bureau, ISIS and the Lindholmen Science Park.
Expected impact The Thematic Group on Energy Efficiency will contribute to the deployment of existing and new ITS technologies to help to reduce the CO2 output of road transport by identifying necessary steps to be taken. The steps to achieve this will be:
-
Set up the Thematic Network as stakeholder communication platform.
-
Create knowledge base (database).
-
Agree on key priorities with highest potential to be followed.
-
Set up expert subgroups to define potential impacts.
-
Develop an overall set of objectives of expected contributions from e.g. fleet management, eco-driving, multi-modular Traffic Management, accident avoidance measures, etc.
-
Coordinate with existing workgroups in other areas working on similar issues.
-
Define possible roll out plan to meet agreed objectives.
Possible barriers and risk factors are related to a potential disproportion between tasks and available budget, the lack of reliable impact data, the trend to overestimate potential savings, and the available expert time and willingness to share information.
Progress will be measured in 4 phases using the following criteria: Coverage of the value chain, database set up, priority selected, agreement of potential impact, agreement on set of objectives, and finally the presentation of an agreed roll-out deployment plan. Progress will be documented in reports.
